WFD Information Evening in Dublin 15 October

Information Evening on Sampling Fish for the Water Framework Directive (WFD)

The Eastern Regional Fisheries Board (ERFB) and the Central Fisheries Board (CFB) are holding an information evening on Sampling Fish for the Water Framework Directive (WFD) on Wednesday 15th October, at 7.30pm in the Lucan Spa Hotel, Lucan ,Dublin.

Pat Doherty CEO of the ERFB will be joined on the evening by Trevor Champ and Dr Fiona Kelly, research scientists with the CFB. Dr Kelly will be giving a presentation on Sampling Fish for the Water Framework Directive, focusing on areas such as

  1. What the WFD is?
  2. How fish will be sampled?
  3. Why certain sites are chosen?
  4. What methods are being used to sample fish?

Trevor Champ, senior research scientist will also be on hand to answer any questions relating to the WFD. Pat Doherty, CEO of the Eastern Regional Fisheries Board said “We hope that this information evening will encourage local and rural communities to get involved in environmental issues in their area and actively engage with us on this important fish sampling programme.”

The Central and Regional Fisheries Boards are responsible for delivering the fish element of WFD and will be measuring the abundance of fish species and their age patterns at a number of sites in the Eastern Region.

The Eastern Regional Fisheries Board and the Central Fisheries Board are inviting anglers, water users and the general public to this event in The Lucan Spa Hotel, Lucan.

The Central Fisheries Board (CFB) is a statutory body operating under the aegis of the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources and was established under the Fisheries Act 1980.

Its principal functions are to advise the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources on policy relating to the conservation, protection, management, development and improvement of inland fisheries and sea angling, to co-ordinate and provide specialist and support services to the Regional Fisheries Boards and to advise the Minister on the performance by the Regional Fisheries Boards of their functions.
